(A story from Buddha Dev)
Buddha Dev and his disciples used to move from place to place to share his truth. Once, on such an occasion, he was passing through a village. A few villagers gathered there and abused him using harsh words. Buddha Dev stood there silently, listened attentively, and then said, ‘Look! I am in a hurry. I have to go to the next village where people must be waiting for me. Once again, I will come back, and then you can tell me whatever is left to say. I will listen to all of you. Now, let me go.’ Thus, he said and left the place.
But the disciples were very angry hearing the villagers' abusive words. They were ready to attack the villagers and teach a lesson to those who were abusing. While they were going the disciples asked Buddha Dev, ‘O lord! Why did you tolerate their words? Why didn't you say anything?’
Buddha Dev smiled and said, ‘Well! Tell me, how do we get our daily food?’
The disciples said, ‘We beg our alms and whatever we get, that we eat.’
Then, immediately Buddh Dev asked, ‘If we don't accept the food given by someone?’
The disciples said, ‘The person takes it back.’
Buddha Dev then said to them, “When the villagers were abusing me, I listened to them but didn't accept their abuses, so that didn't bother me at all. And they went back with their abuses.’
What a lovely story! This is so relevant to today's world! We are getting so many comments and opinions on social media which bother us a lot! If, like Buddha Dev, we won't accept it but return the comments with gratitude saying thanks, probably we can remain stress free and happy. Their rough comments would become meaningless!
However, I read this story from Quora, written by Mr. Jay. Personally, I liked it very much and wished to publish it on my site in the Inspirational genre. I just read it and wrote it in my own words. If anything I have written is wrong, kindly ignore it with your noble mind! Hopefully, this story may inspire millions of people!
